Setup – Installation

**Note: Click here to install directly from our site!**

Before using DataHush, you need to install it on your system. DataHush is provided with an easy installation routine, similar to other **Windows programs**. Before starting the installation program, it is a good idea to **close out all of your running programs and re-boot your system**. The installation program will be altering some of your system files and may run into problems if other programs are keeping those files open.

To install DataHush, insert the **first disk** in the set of distribution disks. It is marked ‘setup’ in the lower left hand corner. The disk label looks similar to the illustration below.

From either **program manager in Windows 3.1**, or the **start menu in Windows 95**, run the setup program. For instance, if the distribution disk is in drive A:, you would type: ***A:Setup***and press <Return>.

The setup program will guide you through the initial installation of the program.

Welcome Screen

When the setup program starts, it will fill the screen and present a dialog box, warning you to close all other programs on your system. This is important! The setup program may not complete successfully if you have other programs running.

On the page following is a sample illustration of the welcome screen. It will vary according to the resolution of your screen, but looks similar to the illustration.

Start Installation

Once you have determined that it is ok to install the program, press the **<Ok> button** on the welcome screen and you will be presented with the ‘start installation’ dialog. This dialog allows you to change the **default installation directory (C:\DH1)** to a directory appropriate to your system. DataHush requires approximately **8 Mb of space on your system drive** (the windows system directory) and approximately **4 Mb of space on the installation drive** (the drive\directory that you choose in the dialog below).

Change the drive and directory as appropriate for your system (by clicking on the **<Change Directory> button**) and then click on the setup icon (the picture with the computer on it). This will start the installation process.

Choose Directory

If you choose to change the default installation drive and directory, you will be presented with the following dialog:

Possible Errors

The installation program attempts to update a number of system files. Some of these files may not be available for update. If the program encounters one of these problems, it will let you know with a warning screen similar to the one below. If you see one of these screens, you should choose the **<Ignore> button**. The program continue the installation. In most cases, the warning should not affect the operation of the DataHush software.

Setup Installation Complete

Once the first phase of installation is complete, you will see a message box saying that crypt was installed successfully. Click **<Ok>** and continue to the next phase of installation.

DataHush Program Group

The installation program will have set up a new program group with the DataHush program icon. Under **Windows 95/98 and NT**, this group looks similar to the following. DataHush is also installed on the ‘Start’ menu.
